Maha govt decision Tata Power-R-Infra row today
The Maharashtra state government’s cabinet committee is expected to take a decision on the on Tata Power-R-Infra slugfest on whether Tata will continue to supply power to R-Infra for its Mumbai suburban distribution license. It may be recalled that on 31 March Tata Power was given a directive by the state government to continue the supply of 500 Mw of power to R-Infra till further notice after Tata had issued a notice to R-Infra that it intended to stop supply from 1 April, 2010 onwards.
After sending the notice, the government appointed a committee of secretaries under chairmanship of chief secretary J P Dange. This committee submitted its report on 30 April and a cabinet sub-committee was scheduled to meet on 3 May to take the final decision on the recommendations. However, due to the subabarban railway motormen’s strike, the meeting was postponed till today.
The panel of secretaries has reportedly recommended that Tata power should continue to supply power to R-Infra at regulated rates and expected quantity can be negotiated and also passed severe strictures against R-Infra for not making arrangements for supplying power to 2.8 million consumers of suburban Mumbai.
