NTPC’s second Dadri unit on stream
State owned NTPC has put on stream the second unit of 490 Mw at its dadri unit to power the Commonwealth Games.
With two coal based units of 490 Mw each, totalling 980 Mw have been added at NTPC- Dadri project to meet the power requirement of Commonwealth games. The commercial operation of first 490 Mw unit started early this year. Ninety per cent of the power generated from Dadri’s stage II will be supplied to Delhi and ten per cent to Uttar Pradesh.
NTPC- Dadri has the distinction of being the country’s only three in one project- a coal based project consisting of stage I, 840 Mw and stage II 980 Mw (490Mw X 2), a 829 Mw gas based station and a 1,500 Mw HVDC converter station which was established by NTPC and now being operated by Powergrid since October ‘93.
Beneficiaries of NTPC Dadri’s 840 Mw coal based station are Delhi and UP. Power from Dadri’s 829 Mw Gas based station is supplied to Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi and Indian Railways.
NTPC is the largest power generating company of the country operating 27 power stations across the country with a capacity of over 17,000 Mw.
