REpower Systems to be rechristened
The newly appointed chairman of wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon’s German subsidiary REpower System, Andreas Nauen has a difficult mission on his hands — to find a new name for his company and its wind turbine brand, REpower.
REpower has been forced to look for a new name as the owner of the REpower brand, the Swiss energy company Ratia Energie, has decided not to allow REpower to continue using the name as Ratia Energie has changed its name to REpower.
REpower systems has been using this name since 2001, based on a non-exclusive licence from Ratia Energie and has rights to use the name till 2012. Since Ratia Energie has started using the brand name, REpower is now planning a rebranding exercise, said a person close to the development.
Suzlon had acquired REpower in May 2007, in a deal totalling about euro 1.35-billion (Rs 7,315 crore), after the French nuclear energy group, Areva, withdrew from a bidding contest. The acquisition helped Suzlon emerge as a global player, with strong footprint across all the key wind markets, a geographically diversified manufacturing base, and turbine and component research and development centres in Europe. Suzlon now has over 90 per cent stake in REpower.- Business Standard
