Tata threatens to pull the plug on Mumbai customers

Tata Power  has made it clear in a statement that as per the maharshtra government’s request, it will continue to supply power to R-infra till 3 May. R-infra supplies power to the Mumbai suburbs.

According to the statement from Tata ” The recommendation of the committee has been submitted to the Government of Maharashtra and the order from the government is awaited. In the meanwhile, government has requested Tata Power to please make 100 Mw available to BEST as per the PPA and maintain status quo with respect to the rest of the power. Tata Power has agreed to this request to maintain status quo till 3rd May 2010.”

The state government has a set up a highlevel commiitte to look into the dispute between the two rival power utilities. The commiitte had already submitted their recommendation to the government and the final order is awaited.

Reliance Infrastructure says Tata’s decision would lead to blackouts in the suburban region of Mumbai. The company also says the SC judgment is being interpreted incorrectly by Tata.
