CDM approval for Tata Power’s wind farm

Country’s largest private power producer Tata Power’s 50.3 Mw wind farm project at Khandke has recieved clean development mechanism (CDM) project approval from United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

The khandke wind farm in Maharashtra’s Ahmadnagar was commissioned in December 2007.  The CDM, is an instrument established under the Kyoto Protocol, achieves sustainable development and contributes to the cost-effective mitigation of climate change.

This is Tata Power’s first CDM registered project. The Khandke project is expected to earn ~85,000 certified emission reductions (CERs) annually from UNFCCC, said a press release issued by the company. Tata Power, which has 200 Mw of operating wind power generation capacity at present, proposes to add 150-200 Mw of wind power capacity every year.
